Clinical Associate Professor (Honorary), Department of Ophthalmology, University of Hong Kong Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine Clinical Care and Research in Ophthalmology:-- Dexter graduated in 1994 with first-class honors in BMedSci and then MBChB, at the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He completed his ophthalmic residency at Hong Kong Eye Hospital and furthered his fellowship training in the prestigious USA Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, which was ranked as #1 in Ophthalmology in USA for 13 straight years. His research interest is in glaucoma and won international and local awards for his research. Selected Honors and Awards: SEAGIG Travel Grant Award (2006); Action for Vision Foundation Exemplary Eye Specialist Award (2007); the Best Paper Award in Glaucoma, American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting (2007); International Ophthalmologist Education Award, AAO (2008); Outstanding Service Provider Award, Hong Kong Eye Hospital (2008); Action for Vision Foundation Best Researcher Award (2009); APAO Achievement Award (2010); the Ten Outstanding Persons of the Year 2010 Hong Kong Award; Achievement Award, AAO (2011), Distinguished Service Award, APAO (2012). Leadership positions: Member of Associate Advisory Board, International Glaucoma Surgery Society (2012 -- ); Member of the Scientific Program Committee, World Glaucoma Congress (WGC) 2013, APAO Congress (2010-2018); World Ophthalmology Congress (2012 Abu Dhabi, 2008 HK); Charter Member (2008- ) and Executive Director (2008-2012) of von Graefe Society; Chairman of organizing committee for World Glaucoma Day Hong Kong Chapter (2008- 2010); Graduate of Leadership Development Program (LDP), APAO (2010). He published more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed International Journals, some of them earning commentaries from the Editorial and were chosen for media highlight both overseas/ USA as well as in HK. Social/ Charity and Professional Services:-- Apart from clinical care and research, social service is an important theme for Dexter. He served as the Chairman of organizing committee for World Glaucoma Day Hong Kong Chapter (2008-2010), which was an initiative to raise public awareness of early eye screening for diseases such as glaucoma. He also was member of Executive Committee, Project Vision Foundation (2008-2013), and Lifeline Express (2002-2003), which contributed to reduction of blindness in rural areas of mainland China. He served on the Board of Directors, Lions Eye Bank (2013- 2017) and was doing active works in encouraging organ donation such as cornea donation for transplantation. Dexter is also currently an Honorary Advisor of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation (2016- ). HKSR was founded in 1959 and its mission is through rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities and older persons, to advocate an inclusive society. Dexter served as a Member of Board of Trustees for Shaw College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (2009-now), trying to put his efforts into education for a better future for Hong Kong and our Greater China.
