RABAEY Korneel, a Professor at the Center for Microbial Ecology and Technology (CMET), department of Biochemical and Microbial Technology at Ghent University as well as honorary professor at The University of Queensland. He is a member of the Young Academy, and one of the founders of CAPTURE (www.resourcerecovery.be ). His main research efforts are on resource recovery from wastewater, decentralized treatments, industrial liquid sidestreams and CO2 streams from industry. Typically a combination of electrochemical and/or microbial approaches is used to achieve formation of added value products. He is currently leading several scale-up projects related to organics recovery, fermentation, CO2 conversion to organics and sanitation in Indian slums. He is the author or co-author of over 140 refereed articles attracting over 17,000 citations in the past ten years, listing him as an ISI Highly Cited Researcher. He is currently associate editor for mSystems and Editorial Advisory Board member for Environmental Science & Technology.
