Dr. Cummings is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. He is the Founding Director of the San Francisco Coordinating Center. Dr. Cummings has led several major epidemiologic studies about fracture and aging. He has been a leader of the major trials of treatments for osteoporosis including alendronate, raloxifene, zoledronate and denosumab. He has worked closely with Drs. Xu Ling and Weibo Xia about the epidemiology of fractures in China. Dr. Cummings has received the highest awards for excellence in bone and mineral research from ASBMR: the Bartter Award and the Neuman Award.
