Patrick C. Hsieh, MD Professor of Neurological Surgery Edwin M. Todd/Trent H. Wells, Jr. Professor of Neurosurgery Department of Neurological Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery Keck School of Medicine Director, Minimally Invasive Spine Program Keck Medicine of USC Patrick C. Hsieh, MD is a board-certified neurosurgeon that specializes in complex spine surgery and spine tumor surgery.  He is also a distinguished research scholar, having performed research in the field of neurogenetics and neurosciences at the National institutes of Health and Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He has done further research in the area of spinal cord injury, chordoma, minimally invasive spine procedures, and clinical outcomes research on a variety of spine treatment.  Dr. Hsieh completed his training at University of Southern California, Northwestern University and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  Beyond his neurosurgery residency, he is triple fellowship trained in the areas of minimally invasive surgery, complex reconstructive spinal surgery and spine oncology.  Since his arrival at USC in 2008, he has led the efforts to establish the multidisciplinary comprehensive USC Spine Center, and he has ascended the academic ranks to Professor.  He is also the recipient of the Edwin M. Todd/Trent H. Wells, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Neurosurgery award.  Dr. Hsieh is well-recognized for his expertise in spinal deformity and spine tumor surgery, and he has traveled nationally and internationally to speak at major spine conferences to present his current research and share his knowledge and experience with other spine surgeons. Dr. Hsieh focuses on optimizing outcomes based on each patient’s individual needs. Often times this includes treating patients with very complex spinal disorders who may have had failed previous operations. Along with complex spine pathologies, Dr. Hsieh is a leader in the minimally invasive treatments of degenerative spine disorders. He is a pioneer in the technique of minimally invasive surgery for tumor resection and routinely performs tumor resection surgeries through a very small incision. His interests also include the treatment of chordoma and other primary and metastatic spine tumors. Dr. Hsieh and his team work alongside the Chordoma Foundation to treat patients from all over the world offering the latest treatment options and en bloc resection of this rare tumor.
