Lobna Ismail

Lobna A. Ismail is an Associate Professor of English and Comparative Literature, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University. She is a literary critic and judge, freelance translator and public speaker (national and international literary venues). She writes for the Egyptian literary magazines: Al-Masrah "Theatre", Fessoul "Chapters", Ibdaa "Creativity", and al-Qahera “Cairo”, and is a regular guest-speaker at the Egyptian TV Cultural Channel.

Dr. Ismail's scholarly work is mainly concerned with the anthropological significance of fictionalizing, narrative discourses, and performativity in both fiction and drama. Her varied critical writings revolve around politicizing texts, women writing, the use of ritual and the supernatural, post-colonial utopias/dystopias, speculative fiction, soft science fiction and Sufism, and the interdisciplinary nature of performative arts.

She is the International Relations Officer, "Egyptian Society of Comparative Literature" (2007- present ), Deputy Director of the Quality Assurance Unit for Post-graduate Affairs and Scientific Research, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University (2014-2015), referee/member, in the Translation Committee at the Egyptian Supreme Council of Culture (2014-2015). She is a founding member of the "Egyptian Circle for Genre Studies"; member of ICLA (International Comp. Lit. Association), IFTR (International Federation for Theatre Research).

She is co-translator of
