Dr. Tetsuro Oshika is currently serving his third term as the President of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society (JOS). He is also the President-Elect of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) and the Vice President of the Academy of Asia-Pacific Professors of Ophthalmology (AAPPO). He holds the position of the Chairman and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Tsukuba, Japan.

 

Internationally renowned as an expert in cataract and anterior segment surgery, Prof. Oshika is also an eminent clinician-scientist with research interests spanning ocular optics, ocular imaging, and the application of artificial intelligence in ophthalmology. He has authored or co-authored approximately 700 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to over 100 textbook chapters, and delivered more than 400 invited lectures. His total Impact Factor is 2,310, and he has H-index is 80.

 

Prof. Oshika's extensive contributions to research and education in the field of ophthalmology have earned him numerous accolades. Among these honors are the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Achievement Award in 2006, the APAO Achievement Award in 2015, the Association for Research in Vision & Ophthalmology (ARVO) Silver Fellow distinction in 2015, the APAO Jose Rizal Medal in 2016, and the Arthur Lim Lecture of the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) in 2019.

 

Prof. Oshika served as the President of the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC), which was held in Tokyo in April 2014. The WOC2014 Tokyo turned out to be an incredibly successful international congress, achieving a record-breaking attendance of 20,000 participants from over 160 countries.
