Dr. Lemaster is a Professor and the GalxoSmithKline Distinguished Endowed Chair at Medical University of South Carolina. He is also the Director of Center for Cell Death, Injury and Regeneration and MUSC's Advanced Cell image Core. Dr. Lemasters’ research has been focused on the mitochondria, especially its function under pathological conditions in the hepatic system. He has particularly defined the role of autophagy and mitophagy in the ischemia/reperfusion injury of the liver. He has made seminar contributions and developed key concepts. Dr. Lemasters has authored and co-authored more than 670 articles and abstracts in addition to 4 books.
